Wage Determination
The way to determine a wage is to see what others in the field are getting. Employers make a decision as to what kind of firm they want to be. Do they want the best people or is mediocre just fine? Employers usually make a determination that they will be above a certain midpoint or a certain percentage below the midpoint. Then, a set of criteria are used to determine wage increases.
The best way to get a raise is to raise the level of responsibility you have. For example, if you can get to be the manager or over an important part of the company.
Some companies just look at your past history and try to keep you down as low as possible. That means that two workers of the same responsibility could have widely different salaries. For this reason, make sure you know what your employer is doing. Some people get screwed for a long time.
